About this Blog

This Blog is a collection of excerpts from talks given by Sri Swami Vishwananda. Please note that this Blog does not focus on dates, background and the exact original way of how Swamiji delivered the speech. We edit the talks slightly, presenting them in a kind of “poetic” format. This means we choose certain paragraphs from a talk which reflect a particular theme.
Read them as pieces of Divine Wisdom, meditate upon the words and just feel how Swamiji is addressing you with His words.

The farmer or how to reach one's aim

Swami Vishwananda told us once another story with a deeper meaning:
There was once a farmer. At the same time in this town there was a big drought and no rain. So the farmer decided to make a channel from the river to his field, so that he can can water his field that the cow can have water to drink. So one day he said to himself; "I will make this, channel and I will not take any rest, I will not take any food, I will not take any drink until I have make it happen. During the day his daughter came with food saying, "Father, come and eat. It's late, it's your lunchtime." He said to the daughter, "No, go away. I have to finish this channel and then I will eat. The daughter went home. Then the mother came. She said, "My dear, you have been working the whole day. You can take 5 minutes rest. Come, take 5-10 minutes rest and have your lunch. Then he said "No" to the wife, but they kept insisting.
So he left t the channel, stopped digging the canal and stared to run after the wife, saying, "Leave me alone! I told you, until I have not finshed the channel, I will not leave this place. Go away!" So when the wife saw that the husband really angry and was not changing his mind, she kept quiet and went home. The men continued to dig. Later in the evening he finished the channel, and as he finished the channel, the water from the river started flowing towards his field. He sat down with appreciation, hearing the beautiful sound of the water, looking at the water flowing in his field and he got great satisfaction. With great satisfaction he went home, took a shower, had his lunch and slept very peacefully. His neighbour also tried to build a channel from the river. When his wife came and said to him, "Come and have your dinner", he said, "No". But then the wife insisted, "Come my dearest Lord, 5 minutes it will not cost you anything. He left the work, and said, "As you have said it so sweetly, I'll come". So, he went and sat and after lunch of course he had a small siesta. So, he had a siesta, but at the end of the evening he didn't do anything. Consequently he never succeed of making the channel to his field.

What lies behind this story is that one has to completely surrender to one's path. And whatever comes on the way… if it is an obstruction an obstacle in one's way, one has always to say no. Your aim is to have God- Realisation, Self- Realisation. Until you have not met your aim, you have not come to the point of complete trust and complete faith in your self and in God, keep trying - don't let anything come on the way. Many times the mind will come in the way, many times the mind will say, "No, no, no, you should not do like that, you should do like this." But if you listen to the mind you will stop and you will become lazy. So really sincerely dedicate yourself and surrender to your path - surrender to what you really want. The aim, is to realise this Love that we have inside and to become this Love completely. To become this Love, that every atom in your body radiates this Love of God. And this Love, you will spread around always. It is beyond everything. Beyond the mind, beyond body, even beyond the spirit itself. This Love is what we have to attain.
