About this Blog

This Blog is a collection of excerpts from talks given by Sri Swami Vishwananda. Please note that this Blog does not focus on dates, background and the exact original way of how Swamiji delivered the speech. We edit the talks slightly, presenting them in a kind of “poetic” format. This means we choose certain paragraphs from a talk which reflect a particular theme.
Read them as pieces of Divine Wisdom, meditate upon the words and just feel how Swamiji is addressing you with His words.

The free will

During a Satsang a participant asked the following question: I would like to ask you, if you can say something about the free will, which we got from the Divine?
Sri Swami Vishwananda answered: You know I was in Russia, last week. The question about the free will is a question that many people like to ask. What is the free will? Do you think these are the things, that we do everyday, when we say “Yes, I have done this, I have done that” ? It’s true, that we have a certain will.
Actually we can choose which way we want and how we want our life, whereas an animal doesn’t have that will. This is the will that God has given us. He has given us the choice.
And for this choice we are free. That’s why we call it a free will. It’s true: we have a free will, like I explained in the beginning. We have a free will of choice, but even that choice is predestined. It’s not that God is playing with us, but it’s our own manifestation of it. Because in reality, we are part of the Divine. We say that this whole world is God’s creation, but in reality it’s the manifestation of our Self. There is also a Saint that said: ”We made the world how we want it.”
It’s true. If this world would be how God wanted it, there would be always peace.
This world is made how men want it. That’s why it’s upside down.
