About this Blog

This Blog is a collection of excerpts from talks given by Sri Swami Vishwananda. Please note that this Blog does not focus on dates, background and the exact original way of how Swamiji delivered the speech. We edit the talks slightly, presenting them in a kind of “poetic” format. This means we choose certain paragraphs from a talk which reflect a particular theme.
Read them as pieces of Divine Wisdom, meditate upon the words and just feel how Swamiji is addressing you with His words.

The father and the two sons / Understanding God with the heart

Yesterday you could read here an excerpt from the Darshan in Vienna on the 10th October 2009. On the same Darshan Sri Swami Vishwananda was telling following story:

Sri Swami Vishwananda:
Once there was a father, a very well-known king. He said to his two sons: “ I send you to this ashram to go and learn the knowledge of the Self. Atma Brahma Vijnana. Go and learn that knowledge.” So the two sons went to the Guru. They learnt three years. Then they came back. The father wanted to test them and said “My sons, you have both learned so much now. You went to the most famous teacher that the world has, that India had at this time. You have learnt the knowledge of the Self. So tell me. You have learnt the knowledge of God. I would like to ask you.” He asked his first son: “My dear son, tell me how is God?” So the first son kept chanting different verses and different Mantras to express how great is the Divine. The father said “Okay, he has learnt something.” Then he asked his small son and said “My son, what about you?” The second son just looked down and didn’t utter one word. A few drops of tears flowed from his eyes, but they didn’t mention anything about how great is God. Then the father said “My son, you have got just a little bit understanding of the Divine.” The father said “ You could understand only a little. Can the mind really understand the Divine? No it can’t. Love can’t be understood by the mind. “ That’s why God has given human beings a heart. That one understands with the heart.
