About this Blog

This Blog is a collection of excerpts from talks given by Sri Swami Vishwananda. Please note that this Blog does not focus on dates, background and the exact original way of how Swamiji delivered the speech. We edit the talks slightly, presenting them in a kind of “poetic” format. This means we choose certain paragraphs from a talk which reflect a particular theme.
Read them as pieces of Divine Wisdom, meditate upon the words and just feel how Swamiji is addressing you with His words.

How to be humble

How to be humble? How to awake this love? How to awake this humility inside?” Because we are hanging so much on to this big ego or pride, we always say “I”, “mine” “me.” Have you ever counted how many times in a day you use these words? If you would count them, you would scare yourself. A lot of times! It’s true, we have different “I”s. There is the “I” of the ego and there is the “I” of the Self, but most often, what our mind firstly understands, is the “I” of egoism. And with this, it’s very difficult to awake love. Even if love awakes, it gets diluted with the power of the mind. The ego is so strong.

It’s true that to achieve realization, to achieve God, we have to be humble. But there is one problem: very often, when someone sees himself as humble, he starts to say, “I am very humble.” These people are very proud people. What is this called? - The ego of humility, the pride of humility. Actually, it’s very difficult to be humble, but it’s not impossible.
