This story was already posted before, from another Satsang, but as it is so beautiful and obviously very meaningful, as Sri Swami Vishwananda tells it often, i post it again in a bit different way.
Sri Swami Vishwananda:
Once Sri Ramakrishna was sitting- I always tell this example.
As He was sitting, He saw a Sadhu passing by the Kali Temple and He just stood in front of the
temple.
Then He just murmured a few words and the whole Temple shook.
He was looking at it with amazement and He said to His nephew “Did you see what I
saw?”
He said “Yes, I saw.”- “Can you go and ask Him who He is?”
And of course the nephew wanted to have a Guru, because he saw that “Wow, what he did is great!”
He run towards the Sadhu and said “Sadhu Maharaj, please listen to me: I want to ask
you something.”
And when the Sadhu Maharaj saw him, he started running away.
Then the disciple started running behind him.
So finally he caught him and said “Okay, what you want from me?“
Then he said “I want to be your disciple. I saw what you just did.”
Sadhu Maharaj said “Go away. I don’t want you.”
So He started walking, but he would keep annoying the Sadhu.
The Sadhu said “Okay, fine.”
He stopped at a certain point, where there were two rivers.
One river was clean and one river was very filthy.
And He said to him “Okay, I will accept you as a disciple, when both of these rivers seem equal to you. Then you come to me.”
