About this Blog

This Blog is a collection of excerpts from talks given by Sri Swami Vishwananda. Please note that this Blog does not focus on dates, background and the exact original way of how Swamiji delivered the speech. We edit the talks slightly, presenting them in a kind of “poetic” format. This means we choose certain paragraphs from a talk which reflect a particular theme.
Read them as pieces of Divine Wisdom, meditate upon the words and just feel how Swamiji is addressing you with His words.

"Both- the dirty and clean river are equal " - Sri Ramakrishna

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Maybe you have heard of Ramakrishna, an Indian Saint.
During His time, one day a beggar came in front of the Kali Temple and, while
standing in front of the temple, he just chanted one mantra and the whole temple started to move.
Another man was looking and, when he saw that the beggar had such power, he started running after him.
When the beggar saw that this man was running after him, he started to run even faster.
After a while, when the beggar saw that this man was still behind him, he stopped and said “What do you want?”
The man replied “I saw that just by standing and praying in front of the temple, you made the whole temple move.
So, for sure, you are a great person and I would like to learn from you and to become your disciple.”
The beggar said, “No, I don’t want you. Go away!” but the man kept bugging him and saying, “Hey, I want, I want, I want!”
Then the beggar finally told him, “OK, do you want to be my disciple? Fine!
Do you see this river here and do you see that river over there?”
One river was dirty and the other river was clean and the Saint said
to the man “Come to me when both of these two rivers seem alike for you!”

Knowledge will only bring you to a certain point

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Limitation is ignorance in man and knowledge is what removes ignorance.
I mean the knowledge of the Divine, the inner knowledge, this knowledge that you have inside of you.
When you have certain knowledge one day you will have to let go even of it, because you don’t realise God either with ignorance or with knowledge.
Knowledge will bring you only to a certain point of realising the Divine, but to realise God, to truly know the Divine, you have to cross over everything, go beyond all limitations.

Swami Vishwananda tells us how to attain the Divine

God resides in the heart and everywhere. We search for God but forget that He dwells already in us. If we remind us continuously that God is in ourselves, we will attain Him. Try to think of Him all the time. He is present in every thing we do. You have to program yourself that you have already the Divine in you with fullsurrender of the love of your heart.

God is not limited

Sri Swami Vishwananda: We place limitations.
We say “God is only this; God is only that.”
But, when we place our limitations on God, then is this really God?
This is not God.
He becomes only the limited concept that we have of Him.

God will provide you with everything

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Work always towards Self-Realisation, towards God-Realisation, and make this the aim of your life.
He will provide you with everything.
Whatever you need, He will give you.

We are here to realise this Self

Sri Swami Vishwananda: We are here to realise this Self, so that our body, our mind and our soul become one.
And, as long as you don’t realise that and think there is a difference between the Divine and you, without trying to make them one, there will be always a barrier.
And, in that way, you will have to come again and again and again to work only on this unity between the human and the Divine.

What is this 'I'?

Sri Swami Vishwananda: So, what is this I?
What is this, “This belongs to me” and “This is myself”?
There is an I, but what is this I?
We say that this is my hand, these are my eyes, or that these are Paul´s eyes.
Who is this Paul?
We can know Paul from the outside but, deep inside, there is another Paul.
Maybe he doesn’t know it yet, but inside each one of us there is our True Self.

Life is about realising why we are here

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Very often we forget about the main aim of life.
We think that we are here in this world just to comb our hair nicely, to put on some
makeup to make ourselves beautiful or just to work and have a big house, have a big car, have a boyfriend or a girlfriend.
But life is not only about that.
Life is about realising why we are here and who we are.
We have an identity in this outside world, but we don’t know who this identity in reality is.

The Lord is inside of you, not on the outside

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Realising first, through meditation and through your prayer, that the Lord is not on the outside, but is inside of you, you will see Him shining in everybody;
because, until you realise the non-difference, you will always see the limitation.

Remind yourself of the Divine contionusly

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Well, what is practice?
It’s to remind yourself of the Divine continuously in whatever you are doing.
That’s yoga.
If somebody just meditates and just prays in the outside only, without realising that the Lord that they are praying to is seated inside of the heart of each being, then it’s of no use.

Love thy neighbour

Sri Swami Vishwananda: It’s like I said before: Love thy neighbour.
Until one realises this Love within oneself, it’s difficult.
You can say, “Swamiji, you are talking about Love, but yet I don’t know what Love is.”
Yes, you don’t know it with the mind, you can’t understand it with the mind, but deep inside of you, all of you know it.
You are here to realise this through your daily practice.
You practise daily, I hope, eh?

You are a drop in the Ocean

Sri Swami Vishwananda: When you have realised that you are a drop in the unlimited ocean of love, life’s purpose will be fulfilled; because in life’s ocean, a drop is not the same as you understand, but it’s One with the Oneness.
And that’s the evolution of the soul.

What is the purpose of life?

Before giving Darshan in Brazil in November 2009, Sri Swami Vishwananda asked the following question: What is life?
What is the purpose of life?
I am asking you.
You know I heard that in Brazil people are very alive.
What is life?
To love thy neighbour and the evolution of the spirit both are very good, actually, but what is the spirit?
That is the purpose of life, to realise who you are.

Christ wants you to realise your true identity

To all the readers of this blog, i wish you a very happy Easter! May Christ resurrect inside of you! We are continuing now with our Easter celebration in the Chapel... Much Love to all of you!
Sri Swami Vishwananda: Christ said: Call upon me to become the sons of God and the daughters of God and to realise your true identity.
And when you have realised your true identity of being the child [of God], the Spirit will flow inside each part of your veins and each part of your arteries will radiate the Divine Light, this Cosmic Light.
You will see each atom as being the same light.

The time is now. Awake!

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Let it not be that, when life is finishing, then you say “Oops, I have wasted my life.”
The time is now.
Awake!
Let your Self be awake!

To realise this great Love needs an effort

Sri Swami Vishwananda: To realise this great Love needs an effort from you to say “Yes, I want that. I want to feel myself full again”.
Until this desire inside of you wakes up, until you make the first step, it’s
difficult.

Why are you doing your Sadhana?

Sri Swami Vishwananda: In your spiritual practice, whatever path you are on, whatever sadhana you are doing, why are you doing it?
It is to Realise your Self, to Realise God inside of you, to have God-Realisation, because God-Realisation or Self-Realisation will not come to you just like that.
It needs an effort from you.

Realise the beauty of Love

Sri Swami Vishwananda: There is no point of saying that it’s difficult or it’s easy [to realise yourself]: it is there already.
It just needs time for you to look at it.
And when you take time through your spiritual practice, you will realise the beauty of Love, the beauty of life and you will know why you are here.
And once you have opened this fountain, this tap of Love, Love can just
flow, nothing else.

You have to rise in Love

Sri Swami Vishwananda: When you love somebody, you start with Love, but with time, it diminishes.
But what happens?
You fall in Love again.
Know that word very well: you fall!
And, as long as you fall, you will never rise.
You have to rise in Love!
And how to rise in Love is to find your Self, to Realise your Self, to realise the greatest gift that God has given you.
Of course, some people will say “Yes, it’s easy to talk about it, but it’s difficult to practise it.”
But Love is there!

Life is not just working, eating, sleeping

Sri Swami Vishwananda: Life is not just working, eating and sleeping, like people very often think.
People enslave themselves in work.
They enslave themselves in eating.
Most of the time they don’t eat properly.
And they enslave themselves in just sleeping.
Life goes on and when the time comes for their departure, then they realise “Oops, I have missed something.”
When they look back and see how many opportunities they had of realising the beauty
of life, they regret because they realise how many opportunities came on their way, so that they could realise themselves, so that they could realise how great is this gift of life that God has given!
And yet, they wasted it.
